Deaf Havana Reveal New Album ‘We’re Never Getting Out’ Featuring Ross MacDonald
Explore Deaf Havana’s fresh album ‘We’re Never Getting Out’ with the lead single ‘Lawn Tennis’ featuring The 1975’s Ross MacDonald.
Deaf Havana’s Bold New Chapter
Deaf Havana, the evocative Norfolk band, has officially announced their seventh studio album titled We’re Never Getting Out. Alongside this exciting news, they've released the album's stirring lead single, ‘Lawn Tennis’ — capturing the band's evolving sound and emotional depth.
The album showcases frontman James Veck-Gilodi diving deep into the creative process, taking full control of the production. A special highlight is the contribution of Ross MacDonald, bassist of The 1975, who plays throughout the record, adding a unique flair to the mix. On drums, the talented Freddie Sheed (known for his work with Lewis Capaldi and Take That) propels the rhythm, while George Glew (Keir, Hanniou) co-writes and co-produces alongside Veck-Gilodi.
Fans can mark their calendars, as We’re Never Getting Out will drop on October 3 via So Recordings. You can pre-order or pre-save the album directly from Deaf Havana’s official website.
Dive Into ‘Lawn Tennis’
The first single, Lawn Tennis, instantly grabs your attention with its honest lyrics and reflective tone. James pens a poignant critique of conventional life, singing:
“Will I ever understand why I’m losing all my friends? / To a perfect lawn, like there’s nothing more to life / And I just can’t pretend.”
— James Veck-Gilodi
The song captures the struggle of watching friends conform to a so-called "normal" life while feeling left behind or disconnected. It’s a powerful and relatable tune for anyone who's ever felt out of sync with the world around them.

The Story Behind the Sound
James Veck-Gilodi opens up about the album’s inspiration and his personal growth:
I have always wanted to change myself. But I’ve also never really owned up to and accepted my mistakes. I’ve just punished myself, told myself that I hated myself and ended up cosplaying as a completely different person instead.
All it took was for me to take the best parts from everything I have done and apply them without actually trying to totally change who I am in the process. Maybe it’s my age or mindset, but I accept who I am now and feel I know how to make myself a good person.
In early 2023, James made the tough choice to discard a previous album he was developing with his brother Matt Veck-Gilodi. Feeling emotionally disconnected from that material, he started fresh, creating what would become We’re Never Getting Out — a project deeply rooted in self-acceptance and authenticity.
