Deftones Set to Release New Album 'Private Music' Next Month
Experience Deftones’ latest album 'Private Music' dropping August 22, showcasing their timeless sound and fresh energy.
Deftones: Still Rocking After Nearly 40 Years
Nearly four decades into their career, Deftones have never been more relevant. Thanks to a wave of late ’90s and early 2000s nostalgia, a growing younger fanbase, and their biggest tour ever—which saw sold-out shows at iconic venues like the Kia Forum in Los Angeles and Madison Square Garden in New York—the Sacramento-based hard rock legends are enjoying unprecedented popularity.
Deftones continue to captivate audiences worldwide.
'Private Music' Arrives August 22
On August 22, Deftones will elevate the excitement with the release of Private Music, their first album in five years. This 11-track record, released through Reprise/Warner, was announced with the debut single “my mind is a mountain”—a taste of what's to come.
A Glimpse into the Album’s Creation
Produced by Nick Raskulinecz, the same producer behind their 2010 album Diamond Eyes and 2012's Koi No Yokan, Private Music carries forward the band's signature intensity and creativity. The partnership with Raskulinecz began following the halted Eros project, which stopped after bassist Chi Cheng was critically injured in a car accident in 2008 and later passed away in 2013.
“Nick sort of approached us, and we had the opportunity to pretty much start a whole other record... We wrote and recorded that record in like two months — seriously. So it was kind of an experiment on its own, and it worked.”
— Chino Moreno
Why Deftones’ Classics Still Matter
Deftones keep winning new hearts with timeless albums like 2000’s White Pony, which features fan favorites such as “Change (In the House of Flies),” “Digital Bath,” and “Passenger.” Moreno reflected on why White Pony remains a favorite among both longtime fans and newcomers:
“I think it’s one of our best-produced records — it’s some of Terry’s finest work. The drum sound is awesome... It’s also very expansive. There’s a lot of soundscape-y stuff, and there’s a heaviness — all those trigger points that Deftones are known for... it’s a headphone record — kind of a slow-burner.”
— Chino Moreno
Deftones’ sound continues to evolve while honoring their roots.
