Diptyque DP115 Floorstanding Loudspeakers: A Stunning Planar Magnetic Experience
Experience the Diptyque DP115 floorstanding loudspeakers' remarkable soundstage and clarity with their innovative planar magnetic design.
A Surprise in Sound
When a friend first spotted my Diptyque DP115 speakers, their curiosity was immediate. “Hold on, what are those?” they asked. “They’re speakers,” I replied casually. Their skepticism turned to astonishment as the music filled the room moments after hitting play. “The band is here! They’re incredible!” they exclaimed, laughter bubbling from their surprise. This reaction wasn’t a one-off—these speakers have a way of bringing music vividly to life, making you feel like the performers are sharing your space. Welcome to the world of Diptyque’s DP115 planar magnetic floorstanders.
Striking Looks Meet Innovative Design
The Diptyque DP115 stands out not just for sound but also for style. The review pair was finished in a sophisticated copper powder coat with a black felt trim from ‘Laoureux’—one of 160 RAL color options available for a small extra cost. Black and white come standard, but the customization options let you tailor the look to your room’s vibe.
Physically, these speakers are a study in sleek engineering—just 3cm deep yet standing tall at 120cm and a width of 47.5cm. The integrated stands tilt the speakers slightly back, adjustable via a neat rear thumb screw to help optimize their placement.
In-House Planar Magnetic Technology
At the heart of the DP115 are proprietary planar magnetic drivers crafted entirely in-house. The bass/mid membrane is a sizeable 90cm by 19cm, complemented by a slim, elongated tweeter measuring 45cm by 2cm. When you knock on the cabinet, the lack of resonance is immediately apparent, thanks to clever construction using two-millimeter-thick steel plates sandwiching the MDF housing the drivers and crossover.
Meeting Gilles Douziech, Co-Director of Diptyque, at the 2025 Munich High End show was a memorable highlight. He handed me the bass/mid panel—a composite frame tightly tensioning a Mylar membrane that resembles a translucent rectangular drum skin.

Push-Pull Bipolar Magnets: The Secret Sauce
What allows this membrane to move up to 3mm—a modest displacement but significant given its surface area—is the ingenious Push-Pull Bipolar Magnet system. Powerful magnets flank both sides of the membrane, creating a larger magnetic gap than typical planar designs and actively driving the membrane forward and back.
This technology delivers impressive bass depth below 50Hz in my room, defying expectations for planar magnetic speakers. The tweeter mirrors this design philosophy, using a similar membrane that ensures impressive phase coherence.
During my visit with Gilles, I also got a glimpse of Diptyque’s Reference Isodynamic speakers, which add a perpendicular arrangement of aluminum tape and magnets for even tighter control. What a clever engineering feat!
Beyond tech, Diptyque’s commitment to sustainability and longevity stands out—they handcraft each speaker from sustainable materials and offer lifelong repair support. “We design products that you can pass on to your children,” their ethos proudly states.

Set-Up: The Key to Unlocking Magic
Having the DP115s at home for over two months was crucial for truly understanding their potential. A quick audition wouldn’t do justice. These speakers challenge your usual placement instincts—forget traditional box speaker rules. Sound from the rear is as strong but in anti-phase, meaning positioning them is an art.
In my room, the DP115s found their sweet spot much closer to walls and wider apart than I’m used to with my Raidho D1.1 floorstanding loudspeakers. Patience with break-in time is also vital. Initially, bass was unruly, especially with deep synths like Björk’s “Hunter” from Homogenic. But after hundreds of hours, the bass tightened beautifully, delivering breathtaking results.
The takeaway? If you hit snags, run them in thoroughly and reconsider room placement. Lean on your dealer’s expertise—they’re worth their weight in gold here.
Tweeter Placement and System Tweaks
Tweeter-facing inward or outward? I preferred inward-facing tweeters. This slightly shrinks the soundstage but sharpens midrange imaging, which suits my near-field listening style.

System synergy is key. I switched the DAC Mapper on my dCS Rossini APEX Digital-to-analog converter from setting 3 to 1 and nudged feedback on my David Berning QZ amplifiers from low to medium. These tweaks opened the sound remarkably—these speakers are unforgiving if your chain isn’t dialed in.
Before serious listening, I use an Orb Sakura Destat static eliminator. The DP115 responded beautifully, with improvements in soundstage and timing—a ritual I highly recommend.
Low-Volume Listening Mastery
One jaw-dropping feature: the DP115’s performance at whisper-quiet volumes. Even around 45dB, dynamics and soundstage remain fully intact, perfect for late-night sessions without waking the household. Background noise in my room measures a whisper-quiet 27dB, and yet these speakers still shine.
Crank it up to a modest 60dB, and the sound grows in scale and detail, still refined and never harsh. They’re not designed for party-level blasts—no true hi-fi speaker really is—but at their intended volumes, they deliver sublime musicality.
Diptyque rates their efficiency at 86dB/1W/1m and recommends amps with 60W minimum. My 200W David Berning QZ amplifiers, known for robust current delivery, were a perfect match.
Understanding Their Tonal Character
If you’re wondering whether these speakers suit your taste, here’s some context. I’ve lived with Focal Diablo Utopias floorstanding loudspeakers (bright, “hot” tweeter) and now Raidho D1.1 floorstanding loudspeakers (neutral, detailed but initially dull to me). The DP115 leans bright but, crucially, never tires the ears once set up right.
I’m highly sensitive to fatigue—any hint and I get headaches. Initial concerns with brightness vanished once I nailed speaker and tweeter placement. As always, invest time in setup—you’ll be rewarded.
A Vast, Enveloping Soundstage
The DP115’s soundstage is the star of the show—vast, immersive, a true “wall of sound.” While it doesn’t pinpoint image with surgical precision like some speakers, its seamless integration captivates listeners. Visitors often comment on being drawn into the music, forgetting technical nitpicks.
Deep Listening Delight
For a vivid demonstration, play Shelby Lynne’s “I Only Want To Be With You” from Just A Little Lovin’. The Diptyque DP115 reveals nuances I hadn’t noticed before, letting me set aside reviewer hats to simply revel in the music’s emotion and flow.
David Sylvian’s “Orpheus” from Secrets of the Beehive delivers vocals with breathtaking artistry, weaving delicate microdynamics and a palette of musical colors across a well-balanced bass foundation. While the DP115 vocals don’t quite match the Diapason Karis Wave’s rarefied league, the full frequency response offers a more holistic experience.
New Favorite Tracks
Gregory Porter’s “Hey Laura” from Liquid Spirit impressed me with its clarity and emotional depth, reflecting the singer’s heartfelt storytelling with perfect timing and dynamic flow.
Though not designed for deep bass fanatics, Jennifer Warnes’ “Bird On A Wire” from Famous Blue Raincoat features a kick drum that hits lower as the track unfolds, and the DP115 recreates this with such cohesion that it feels as if a tight, responsive subwoofer is in the room—an impressive illusion considering its range limits.
Unmatched Engagement
What truly sets the DP115 apart is its ability to engage you deeply. Whether exploring musical messages, emotions, or technique, the speakers invite you in.
Listening to Hilary Hahn’s rendition of Edgar Meyer’s Violin Concerto Movement No. 2 from Barber & Meyer Violin Concertos, I was struck by the effortless coexistence of extreme frequencies in perfect harmony. The sound resonates through your body and ears alike—creating an enveloping, breathtaking musical experience that transcends typical hi-fi listening.
The band is in the room! — An astonished listener
Could This Be the Ultimate?
Unless you’ve experienced far pricier setups, it’s easy to believe the DP115 could be the pinnacle for many. Their realism and presence bring performances to life in a way that’s hard to match.
As a final note, this isn’t my first review from Gary Campbell’s portfolio, and it might just be the perfect endgame for the right audiophile.
