Joe Jonas Reflects on South Park Parody That Upset Nick and Kevin
Joe Jonas shares how the South Park parody of Jonas Brothers hit a nerve with Nick and Kevin but left him laughing.
South Park’s Bold Take on the Jonas Brothers
If you’ve ever watched South Park, you know it doesn’t hold back when it comes to poking fun at celebrities. Back in 2009, the animated series aired a sharp parody about the Jonas Brothers during their Disney Channel heyday, portraying them as corporate puppets under the thumb of a ruthless Mickey Mouse.
The episode, titled The Ring from the 13th season, cleverly referenced the film Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience. In this episode, Disney is depicted trying to market the band’s wholesome image while using them to sell sex appeal to young fans — all while having them wear purity rings to symbolize their virginity. One of the most memorable scenes shows Mickey Mouse violently beating the brothers for defying his orders.
Here’s a glimpse of that wild moment from the Jonas Brothers 3D Concert Spectacular parody:
Joe Jonas’s Take: Laughing It Off
Speaking candidly on Mythical Kitchen’s Last Meals show, Joe revealed he was the only Jonas brother who truly enjoyed the parody.
“I think I was the only brother that loved it,” Joe said. “I thought it was hilarious, because I watched South Park, and I was like, ‘This is so funny, I know what they’re doing, they make fun of everyone!'”
Joe sees the parody not as an insult but as a badge of honor.
“To be made fun of by a comic is usually a sign that they give a shit, and they care, and it’s funny. They really went for us. I mean, what an honour to get my ass kicked by Mickey… I think it’s one of my favourite episodes."
These days, the brothers just laugh about it.
“Now we just laugh [about it]. We love that. I think it’s so great. Definitely a claim-to-fame for me.”
What’s Next for South Park?
South Park continues its legacy of sharp satire with its 27th season, slated to premiere on July 9. The upcoming episodes will target celebrities like Diddy, explore ketamine themes, and even dive into a fictional war between the US and Canada. Fans in the UK can catch new episodes via the Paramount+ streaming service.
Joe’s full interview on Last Meals will be available on June 3 at 6am ET/3am PT on Mythical Kitchen’s YouTube channel.
Why Does Getting Parodied by South Park Matter?
Getting spoofed by South Park can feel like a double-edged sword—it’s brutal but also a sign that you’ve made it in pop culture. Joe Jonas’s reaction shows that sometimes, the best way to handle satire is to embrace it with a chuckle. After all, “they really went for us,” and that kind of attention is unique and memorable.
