Margot Robbie Recalls “Wild” Charli XCX Glastonbury 2025 Set: “I Was in No State for the ‘Apple’ Dance”

Step back into the electric vibes of Glastonbury 2025 as Margot Robbie shares her unforgettable experience watching Charli XCX’s wild set—and why she skipped the viral ‘Apple’ dance.

A Glastonbury Night to Remember

Imagine standing amidst thousands at Glastonbury 2025, the air buzzing with excitement, as Charli XCX takes the stage. Margot Robbie, who stars as Catherine Earnshaw in the fresh, bold retelling of Wuthering Heights, recently looked back on that “wild” performance with fondness and a hint of awe. It’s not every day you get to witness a pop icon like Charli XCX owning The Other Stage, especially when you’re also part of a cinematic journey inspired by the same classic tale.

Robbie described Charli as “so cool,” reminiscing, “It feels like yesterday I was watching her perform at Glastonbury and now we’re just having chats.” That kind of crossover between movie magic and live music adds an extra layer of excitement to the whole experience.

Charli XCX’s Glastonbury Magic: Knowing the Crowd

What makes a Brit’s Glastonbury set stand out? According to Margot, it’s about deep familiarity with the festival and its crowd. “There’s something different when a Brit performs at Glastonbury. They’ve probably been there before, so they know what people want,” she explains.

Robbie vividly recalls the moment Charli burst onto stage: “She immediately came out and we’re all screaming. She’s like, ‘Don’t play with me, Glastonbury,’ and then she went into something else and everyone was losing their minds.”

Her impression of Charli’s connection with the audience is spot on: “She was like, ‘This is for my people in Block9’, and it’s like, ‘Yes, we’re going to go to Block9!’ She just knew the crowd, and everyone went wild.”

The Viral ‘Apple’ Dance—Missed but Not Forgotten

If you were following the festival buzz, you’d know the ‘Apple’ dance is a viral sensation, a ritual where big-name artists perform the dance associated with Charli’s hit song. But when asked if Charli invited Margot to join the craze, Robbie joked, “I was in no state to do the ‘Apple’ dance!”

At Glastonbury, the dance spotlight was grabbed by Gracie Abrams, who performed on the same stage and even had Charli in the crowd cheering her on.

Crafting the Wuthering Heights Soundtrack: A Creative Journey

Switching gears to the film itself, Wuthering Heights isn’t just a visual reimagining; its soundtrack is a whole new original world. Jacob Elordi shared how Charli XCX began developing the album inspired by the screenplay long before filming started.

“What I found interesting was that she started developing it from the screenplay, before we even started shooting. I think that’s so interesting – that you have one artist’s images, like Emerald’s, from 14 years old, to now reading this book, and then she puts those images into words. And then another artist comes in and starts creating a sound based off of those words,” Elordi explained.

Robbie chimed in, calling the project “unbelievable.” “We were just hoping for one song, and she was like, ‘I’ll do an album.’ We’re all like, ‘OK, great, thank you.’”

From Film to Music: Jacob Elordi’s Tumblr Confessions

In a fun detour, Elordi revealed a quirky side of himself involving his co-star Oscar Isaac and his old ska-punk band days. “I’ve never deleted it. I did have a Tumblr account that was dedicated to thrashing the transit of Melbourne. Graffiti and cinema were my two passions.”

He even explained why Oscar Isaac was trending on Tumblr back then: “There must have been an X-Men film at that time and so he was trending... I had all pictures of young actors before they started making films on there.”

Favorite Albums That Keep the Cast Inspired

Music clearly runs deep for the Wuthering Heights cast. When asked about albums they always return to, Jacob Elordi picked The Notorious B.I.G.’s 1994 debut Ready To Die, a record that struck him at age 13.

Margot Robbie stuck with hip-hop too, choosing 50 Cent’s Get Rich Or Die Tryin’ from 2003.

Alison Oliver took a bit longer to decide but finally went with Amy Winehouse’s Back To Black, inspired by revisiting the documentary and the singer’s undeniable artistry. She even revealed that Amy’s songs are her go-to karaoke choices.

“I actually watched the Amy documentary again last week, for no reason, and she was just the most incredible artist of all time,” Oliver said.

Robbie playfully teased, “Are you even allowed to be Irish if you can’t sing?”

Wuthering Heights Is Now in Cinemas

From wild festival nights to deep musical inspirations, Wuthering Heights has sparked creativity across the board. Whether you’re a fan of the classic tale or drawn to its modern twist, this film is making waves—and with Charli XCX’s soundtrack, it’s a double treat.
