Soulwax Hints at New Album with Striking London Billboard: "ALL SYSTEMS ARE LYING"

Soulwax teases fans with cryptic "ALL SYSTEMS ARE LYING" billboard, signaling their first album release in seven years.

Soulwax Sparks Excitement with Cryptic London Billboard

Belgian dance-punk duo Soulwax, brothers Stephen and David Dewaele, have ignited curiosity by unveiling a mysterious London billboard proclaiming “ALL SYSTEMS ARE LYING.” This marks their first big hint at a new album after seven years of silence in terms of studio releases.

The enigmatic message appeared on their Instagram bio too, accompanied by a blurry video zooming in on the billboard, teasing fans with no other details so far.

A New Era on the Horizon: What We Know So Far

Last year, Soulwax previewed fresh material during their UK and European tour—a first live outing in five years—with an ambitious stage show. The 13-date tour, which began on the continent and later moved to the UK, featured new tracks that hinted at the direction of their upcoming work.

At their London Roundhouse show on February 2, the brothers delivered a high-energy performance supported by a band boasting three drummers and several synth and guitar players. Moving away from their previous white outfits, Soulwax embraced a cyberpunk vibe, reflected both in their visuals and the sound of their new songs.

New Tracks Showcase Evolution of Soulwax’s Sound

Several fresh songs made an appearance during the set:

  • "Hot Like Sahara" opened with a nod to their rock roots before diving into darker, sci-fi inspired tones.
  • "Idiots In Love" channeled paranoid post-punk energy.
  • "New Earth Time" blended aggressive synths with rave-rock intensity.
  • "Polaris" offered a blissed-out, mellow breather midway through the show.

These tracks promise an album that pushes Soulwax’s signature blend of rock, electronic, and punk further into new territory.

Soulwax Reflects on Their Musical Journey and Inspirations

“It’s still weird that we talk about Bowie as if we’d known him but we only met him once,” said Stephen Dewaele. “He was even on the forum on our little website as ‘David Bowie’ asking us questions, and we thought he was someone else! When we met him, Dave asked how much time he spent on the internet and he said, ‘Don’t you see I’m on your forum all the time?’ Such a weird world now.”

In an interview, the Dewaele brothers recounted their experiences and inspirations, including their iconic mix As Heard On Radio Soulwax Pt.2 and their connection to artist David Bowie.

They also reminisced about the early 2000s indie dance scene, which is currently experiencing a pop culture revival. Soulwax shared how their relationship with influential DJ Erol Alkan and the London nightlife scene helped shape their sound and performances.

Latest Projects: 2ManyDJs Soundtrack Netflix Film

Besides Soulwax updates, the Dewaele brothers’ alter ego, 2ManyDJs, recently composed the complete original soundtrack for Netflix’s Vincent Cassel-starring film Banger. This includes the theme song plus tracks named ‘Dans Le Lab’ and ‘Dans Le Club.’ The film, directed by Bertrand de Langeron (So Me), debuted globally on the streaming platform in April.
