Biffy Clyro Partners with CALM to Launch ‘Mountains’ T-Shirt Supporting Suicide Prevention
Biffy Clyro’s ‘Mountains’ T-shirt collaboration with CALM raises funds and awareness for suicide prevention and mental health support.
If you’ve ever felt the soaring power behind Biffy Clyro’s music, you know it’s more than just rock—it’s raw emotion, resilience, and sometimes, a lifeline. Now, the Scottish rock trio has teamed up with the mental health charity CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably) to launch a special ‘Mountains’ T-shirt designed to fundraise for suicide prevention and mental health services.

A Meaningful Collaboration Rooted in Their Hit Song ‘Mountains’
Biffy Clyro’s partnership with CALM is more than just a merchandise drop; it’s a heartfelt crusade. The design of the T-shirt is inspired by their 2008 anthem ‘Mountains’, a track that later became a highlight on their 2009 album Only Revolutions. The band chose a striking all-black base with bold red text featuring the powerful lyric: “I am a mountain. I am the sea.” This haunting line captures the song’s essence—a reminder of inner strength and the battle to believe in yourself even when others may not.
Priced at £30, every purchase supports CALM’s vital services, including their suicide prevention helpline and mental health app, CALMzone. It’s a simple way for fans to rally behind an important cause while wearing a piece of Biffy Clyro’s legacy.
Lead singer Simon Neil reflects on the song’s significance:
“The song ‘Mountains’ is kind of about trying to have a bit of belief in yourself when it feels like no one else does. It’s when you’re trying to find that little bit of confidence to fight your way through life.”
His words resonate deeply, especially as mental health remains an urgent conversation in and beyond the music community.
CALM CEO Highlights the Power of Music for Mental Health
Simon Gunning, CEO of CALM, praised the initiative, emphasizing the impact that one word or a single lyric can have:
“One word, one message, one line of a song that means so much to you can make a world of difference. We couldn’t be more grateful to all the artists involved in ‘Lifelines’, for using their platforms in this way, showing just what a juggernaut of power for good music can be.”
The ‘Lifelines’ campaign, which includes other artists’ designs, continues to build momentum in raising awareness and funds for mental health support. You can browse the collection of these charitable merch items directly on CALM’s website.
More Artists Joining Forces for Mental Health Awareness
Biffy Clyro isn’t alone in this collaboration. Other notable bands and musicians like Blossoms, Tom Walker, and Inhaler have also joined the cause, offering their own unique T-shirt designs. These items remain available on CALM’s store, giving fans multiple ways to show solidarity.
Last year, Fontaines D.C. partnered with CALM as well, creating a shirt featuring the cover art of their acclaimed album Romance and the title of their 2025 single ‘It’s Amazing To Be Young’ printed on the back. Their contribution to mental health awareness continues to inspire.

Biffy Clyro’s Open Conversations on Mental Health
The band’s involvement with CALM aligns with their ongoing openness about mental health struggles—a conversation that Simon Neil and the band have courageously embraced over the years. Back in 2018, Simon discussed the dire statistics of suicide among young men and the urgent need to break the silence around depression.
“The stats of young men killing themselves is horrific,” he said, underscoring that suicide remains the single biggest killer of men under 45 in the UK. “It’s always been a tough thing for people to talk about, and that’s always been the problem. As soon as you internalise something to that degree, you just become entirely alone.”
His perspective rings true: happiness shared is happiness multiplied, and opening up is essential for survival.
In 2016, Simon also revealed his own battle during the early sessions of their Ellipsis album, describing a “terrible headspace” marked by feelings of unfulfillment and unhappiness.
More recently, in 2025, bassist James Johnston announced he would be sitting out the band’s tour dates to focus on his mental health, sharing:
“The time has come to properly address my illnesses and deal with them. I am extremely sorry to Simon and Ben and thank them for their continued love, patience, support and understanding throughout this time.”
He reassured fans that professional help is underway and that there is “light at the end of the tunnel.”
A Milestone London Gig and Upcoming Tour Dates
The announcement of the 'Mountains' T-shirt coincides with the aftermath of Biffy Clyro’s biggest headline show in London’s iconic Finsbury Park. Supported by bands like Nothing But Thieves, Don Broco, Marmozets, and Wavves, the gig was a celebration of the band’s enduring appeal.
The highlight? Simon and company brought out Jamie Campbell Bower—yes, the Stranger Things actor and musician—to join them in performing ‘Machines’ from their 2007 album Puzzle, a nod to longtime fans and a treat to those new to their music.
As the band continues touring, huge shows are lined up at the Royal Highland Showgrounds in Edinburgh on August 21 and Cardiff Castle on July 30. These gigs promise to be electrifying, combining new material and beloved classics.
New Songs and Creative Freedom: What’s Next for Biffy Clyro?
Simon Neil revealed that the band already has “15” new songs written, showcasing their restless creativity. What’s exciting is the “less focused” nature of these tracks, allowing more freedom and eccentricity to shine through.
“There’s liberation in knowing that people who are really into our band will listen to them at this stage... There are some garage rock songs on there, one of the best country rock songs I’ve ever written.”
Despite the digital age’s obsession with singles, Simon remains old-school, wanting to craft a full album that tells a complete story.
“I would like it to be an album. I’m still old-school. You show that you’re making a serious statement with an album. I like how they fill in the gaps and tell the story.”
He’s also aware of balancing new releases with their current Futique project, joking about the constant influx of fresh ideas:
“I was just in Barcelona and wrote another seven songs and I don’t know what to do! I want to complete the ‘Futique’ statement first... but I can’t help but do new stuff. That’s a good sign. We’ll take it as a positive that there’s life in old dog yet.”
