Sharon Osbourne Opens Up About Why She Didn’t “Go With Ozzy” in Their Death Pact

Sharon Osbourne shares the heartfelt reasons behind her choice not to join Ozzy in their assisted-suicide pact, revealing how family love changed everything.

A Pact Born from Love and Loss

When it comes to the Osbournes, their bond has always been intense, unfiltered, and deeply rooted in love and loyalty. Sharon Osbourne recently opened up about a profoundly personal decision she made—choosing not to “go with Ozzy” after his passing despite the pact they once shared.

Back in 2007, Sharon revealed in her memoir Sharon Osbourne Extreme: My Autobiography that she and Ozzy Osbourne had made a pact to visit the Swiss assisted-dying organization, Dignitas, should either of them suffer from dementia. Ozzy later expanded this pact to include other serious illnesses such as Alzheimer’s and life-threatening conditions. The pact was reportedly born after the death of Sharon’s father, music mogul Don Arden, in 2007—a moment that clearly marked a shift in their outlook on life and death.

The Pact Stays — But Life Intervenes

Fast forward to 2023, Sharon confirmed on The Osbournes podcast that the plan was still very much in place. Yet, when Ozzy passed away in July at the age of 76 due to a heart attack, compounded by coronary artery disease and Parkinson’s, Sharon made a choice that surprised many.

In an emotional and candid interview on Piers Morgan Uncensored, Sharon revealed that she did not follow through on the pact. Why? Her three children—Aimee, Kelly, and Jack—were her anchor.

“I would have just gone with Ozzy… Oh, yeah, definitely, I’ve done everything I wanted to do,” she said. “But they’ve been, they’ve been, excuse me, unbelievably, just magnificent with me, all three of them.”

It’s a raw, human moment to hear Sharon acknowledge that the love and support of her kids tipped the scales. It’s one thing to make a pact in the abstract, but when grief becomes real, family becomes everything.

A Memory That Changed Everything

Sharon’s choice wasn’t just about the here and now; a haunting memory helped shape it. She recalled a difficult period in her life when she sought help for a mental health crisis.

“I went into a little facility to help with my head,” she said. “And there were two girls over there – they didn’t know each other, but they were in there, each mother had committed suicide, and I saw the state that these two young women were in and what it had done to their lives, and I thought, I will never, ever, ever do that to my kids.”

This glimpse into the ripple effects of loss and suicide is heart-wrenching—and it’s a powerful testament to the protective, fierce love she has for her children.

Grief as a Companion

Sharon went on to describe her evolving relationship with grief. “Grief has now become my friend,” she confessed. “It is very weird to me, you know, when you love someone that much and you’re grieving for them, it’s what I have to live with, and I’ll get used to it. I will, I have to, you know, things move on.”

It’s a beautiful way to frame something so painful, turning grief from an enemy into a companion in the journey forward.

Ozzy’s Final Moments and Words

In the same interview, Sharon shared a touching glimpse into Ozzy’s last hours. The Black Sabbath legend was “up and down to the bathroom all night” and woke her around 4 a.m., asking her to “wake up.”

“I said, ‘I’m already bloody awake, you’ve woken me up’,” Sharon remembered. “And he said, ‘Kiss me’, and then he said, ‘Hug me tight’.”

After that intimate moment, Ozzy “went downstairs, worked out for 20 minutes and passed away.” Sharon admitted to a pang of regret, wondering if she could have said or done more in those final hours.

“I can’t help wondering if I should have, could I have? If only I’d have told him I loved him more. If only I’d have held him tighter,” she told Morgan.

A Legacy that Lives On

Since Ozzy’s death, fans and the music world have rallied around his legacy. A petition with over 75,000 signatures called for Birmingham Airport to be renamed in his honor, reflecting the deep respect for the Prince of Darkness in his hometown. On what would have been his 77th birthday, Ozzy was posthumously awarded the Birmingham Lord Mayor’s Award, a fitting tribute to an icon who reshaped rock music forever.

Final Thoughts: Love, Loss, and Moving Forward

Sharon Osbourne’s story is one of unflinching honesty and profound love. It’s a reminder that even the toughest pacts can be reshaped by the day-to-day realities of love and family. Choosing to live, to grieve, and to honor someone’s memory in life is no less powerful than following through on any pact made in the past.
